We tried to make it to tomorrow but Lola was having trouble breathing so I rushed her to the ER where she passed quickly. She is now at peace and can rest.

Lola came to me as a foster in December 2020. I had no intention of keeping her but I think she found me for a reason. We fought her kidney disease for over 4 years and she truly was such a fighter. She made it well over the 1 year timeline she got back in 2021.

To anyone who ever donated, shared, or liked a Lola post, I want to say thank you. She wouldn’t have made it this long without the donors. I also want to thank all the vets, techs, internists, and our nutritionist @dailydogfoodrecipes for always answering my questions and helping me with Lola until the end.

And a major thank you to @presentmomentrescue for taking Lola on last fall. You’ve been amazing and I appreciate you more than you’ll ever know ❤️

I can honestly say I’ve tried and tested just about every dog pen, cage, and pop up available on the market over the years and nothing compares to @clearly_loved_pets in terms of quality, beauty, function and durability. Now that our adoptable frenchie chipughua puppies are growing they have been testing their wings with the 27” pen so having the 36” height has been a huge help for keeping them contained when needed for feeding, safety, napping and line changes. Thank you again for making our life simpler and safer with your kindness and thoughtful design!

We had DJ Patches’ internal medicine visit this week. Unfortunately, we discovered that Patches is in advanced/end stages of liver failure. We ran blood work, did an ultrasound and ran a bile acid test to determine exactly what was going on with the liver and how well it was capable of functioning. The additional diagnostics we could do would require anesthesia which he is high risk for and would have to be on his new meds for 30-60 days before they could even be considered- they are a CT scan and liver biopsy, he would be neutered at the same time. We discussed the results of the diagnostics, the risks and the potential timeline of his life in addition to the fact that even if we did the other diagnostics it would be highly unlikely they would be able to do anything to give him a longer or higher quality of life. Everyone on his care teams is in agreement that we are taking surgery off the table and focusing on palliative care to give him as many good days as possible.

DJ Patches had a pending adoption on the east coast. She was selflessly on board with Patches staying here under PMR with his familiar vets and amazing foster home he has been in. His foster parents have graciously offered to be Patches family for as much time as he has on earth giving him a beautiful life, just as they did with our special hydro wild child Bernie Beans from 2 years ago.

The timeline we have been told (although we always leave a large cushion for miracles) is anywhere from 6-24 months. We are going to start a Patches bucket list of great experiences while he’s still feeling good and up for adventures, including spending some time at the mountain sanctuary to have the full Present Moment experience.

His monthly care and vet bills will be considerable for the remainder of his time which we had not planned on but we are committed, as we always are, to giving him every opportunity for joy and health. Please consider donating towards Patches palliative care if you are able. This week his vet bills and new medications came to $1500. We updated his wishlist as well.

Happiest Adoption to Wrenny Pancakes!!!

Wren is the second of the bird babies to leave the nest and has a magical adoption story filled with so many incredible people, dogs, beings on the other side and universal awesomeness.

Rescued from San Bernardino shelter at around 3 weeks old, we have supported tiny treasure Wren while he blossomed into a vibrant, joyful and loving boy filled with personality, style and the most adorable duck lips.

Thanks to our wonderful rescue friends @mkritchey and @ritcheygirl sharing Wren in their posts when he was old enough to be adopted, he was seen by @themrjuice and @lancelotoflove parents two days after they unexpectedly lost Mr. Juice. While they were heartbroken about Juice’s crossing, he had already been planning something very divine for his family. The day before his passing, a wren flew in their door and was sitting in their entry way. A different wren also flew into the Ritchey’s house just days later. We started talking about what a wren signifies and kept the conversation going for about 6 weeks. In January Catherine & Craig decided it was time to bring their own Wren home and made plans to come pick him up from California. This week he made his way to South Carolina and was welcomed by his new community of family and friends.

We are thrilled that Wren found his happily ever after, that Lancey has a baby brother and that Wrenny not only has two incredible, dedicated parents but he also gets to hang out with one of our favorite familys the Ritcheys and their frenchies Emmy & Luna!

Here’s to a long and joyful life of adventures and love to you all. Congrats and high ten Wren!

DJ Patches found his lobster love just in time for Valentine’s Day!

We’ve discovered he has some anxiety as he’s adjusting to “normal dog life”. Patches is the sweetest guy although it doesn’t seem like he had much human interaction or guidance wherever he was before. So we are taking everything slowly to let him acclimate to typical family dog experiences, environments and connections that he seems very unfamiliar with. He finds comfort to manage his feelings and energy levels by suckling and self soothing with stuffed animals so we got him a special treat after his vet appointments this week. He’s already made significant progress decompressing with @candiceshaffer_ learning how to cuddle, sit close to a human and learn the basics about leash skills and making animal friends.

We also got DJ Patches lab work back today-his liver levels are still quite high so our next step in his medical journey is seeing our internal specialist for an ultrasound and further diagnostics. This appointment is in 2 weeks and will be between $800-1200 depending on what tests they recommend in addition to the exam and ultrasound. Thank you to everyone who is supporting DJ, Alfie, Nonna and all our PMR pups. This month will be particularly high for our medical bills so your presence and love is greatly appreciated!

Sweet baby Bubbles has joined our angel tribe across the rainbow bridge. We’ve been quiet the last few days while we have been processing this completely unexpected loss that has hit our hearts with an extra heaviness for many reasons.

Bubbles slipped away quietly in her sleep in the early morning hours on Saturday. She had been having some abdominal discomfort Friday which we attributed to indigestion. I had remedies delivered to her within hours which did bring her relief & comfort. She did not give any indicators this was a more serious or urgent matter outside of what we’ve experienced with hydro and neuro typical puppies having occasional tummy issues that often come with the rescue process and breeds we specialize in. We had a plan in place for her to go to the ER at any time if her discomfort worsened. I woke up to a text from Cynthia on Saturday morning that she was gone.

Each pup & especially our sacred hydrocephalus water unicorns that cross our path brings with them lessons to learn, opportunities to grow and new ways to expand our hearts. The Bird Babies experience their first snow day. We did a quick test run this morning but will have a nice outdoor adventure this afternoon after we get everyone bundled up in fleeces and sweaters now that we know they love snow!

While we have been assisting with LA fire support we have not stopped our PMR rescue efforts. @love_my_spawn and I received a video last week from our amazing friend @blues_babes about a little hydro nugget at West End shelter brought in by a houseless person. Cynthia picked baby up that day and in just under a week in her care she has already made tremendous progress and improvement in her mental, emotional and physical comfort with lots of hydro love and TLC.

We are honored to collaborate with Cynthia once again to be her rescue backing for this sweet treasure so please give the warmest Present Moment welcome to Bubbles Shrimptastic!

Nonna Sophie is doing well considering all the changes she’s had at this stage in her life. Sophie is still adjusting to a new place and family members but every day is making progress getting more comfortable and exploring everything the sanctuary has to offer her.

She is dog friendly, enjoys sunning outside and nestling in piles of blankets. She spends most of her time napping but likes short adventures outside. Sophie may be 17 years old but she can keep up with any dog in the house, does stairs and goes on short walks.

Turkey (now Machito) is officially the first bird baby to leave the nest! He couldn’t have gone to a more wonderful and loving home than with our dear friend @joyce.perez.9 and her mom Carole.

Alfie Tater Tots had a full exam and wellness panel done today. We are keeping him in our isolation room and treating for a URI for the next 10 days to get him at full strength and protect the more fragile pups in the house like Nonna Sophie and the bird babies. His leg injuries and other marks are scars and wounds that have occurred over a long time frame. His vocal cords have been cut. We don’t know what happened in his past or how he can be as sweet as he is given what his life has been but he will be treasured every moment for the rest of his days. We can’t wait to see him blossom and fill out into his perfect potato form! He may be a Frenchman but we get big time Irish vibes from him.

When picking up Ayla on Friday, shelter staff notified Cynthia about a 17 year old surrender in the medical room. Yes, you read that right. 17 years old.

No one was networking her or knew she was even there needing help. We learned that Sophie has been with her owner since she was a puppy. The owner recently suffered an accident leaving him with a permanent neurological impact that made him unable to continue caring for her. The person’s family made the choice to bring her to the shelter. Cynthia texted this to me as she waited for Ayla to be discharged and we quickly agreed we better scoop her up too.

As bitter as losing Ayla so soon has been, we wouldn’t have known about Nonna Sophie if not for her. Sophie was picked up by @love_my_spawn yesterday morning and has already seen our wonderful vets for a thorough exam and full wellness panel. This deserving Nonna is going to have the golden retirement she deserves.

We decided to keep the name that she’s had her whole life but are honoring her longevity and this era of her life by making her a Nonna, which is an Italian name for grandmother.

Yesterday’s vet bills for Nonna Sophie and Ayla’s aftercare were $750. Please consider donating towards these two beautiful girls if you are able. We are so honored to be part of both of their lives, no matter how short or long we are gifted with each of them.

She had a seizure yesterday morning. We already had her booked for a general vet appt at 1 with the plan to go to the ER Sunday or sooner if we needed more urgent neurology than their schedule had open. She was fading upon arrival at the vet. We discussed all options and were in the process of assisting with her crossing over when she took a last breath in Cynthia’s arms and slipped away on her own, affirming that this was her divine plan.

We cannot share more details at this time but be assured that this is not the end of her story. Ayla crossed over feeling loved and safe for likely the first time in her short life.

Please send love to Cynthia @love_my_spawn for being her guardian and advocate during this process. This was not what we expected when we pulled her on Friday. As we are piecing together the events of her case and how it ended, this has left us shocked and heartbroken.
